Perfect Songs: Andrew Bird – “Tables and Chairs”

This is my favorite Andrew Bird song.  I know you’re thinking “Blasphemy!  How can you have a favorite when all his work is so. damn. good?”  Oh well, I do.  This song is perfect.  It displays all the best things about Mr. Bird, from the abstract lyrics and guitar picking to the perfectly placed buildups and orchestration.  He even duets for a little, too!  On top of all that, it also has some of my most personally beloved couplets ever put to record…

i know we’re going to meet some day
in the crumbled financial institutions of this land
there will be tables and chairs
there’ll be pony rides and dancing bears
there’ll even be a band
cause listen, after the fall there will be no more countries
no currencies at all, we’re gonna live on our wits
we’re gonna throw away survival kits,
trade butterfly-knives for adderal
and that’s not all
ooh-ooh, there will be snacks there will
there will be snacks, there will be snacks.

Snacks indeed, Andrew.  Snack indeed…

  1. Have ya’ll heard of the artist Pete RG?! If not you’re definitely missing out on a great folk/Americana singer! His music reminds me of a mix between Andrew Bird and David Gray. You can get a FREE download of his song “Rainy Girl” here http://peterg.viinyl.com/ Let me know what you think!
