The Last Shadow Puppets – “My Mistakes Were Made For You”

Since I wrote about Miles Kane the other day, I figured introducing a few new people to the Last Shadow Puppets wouldn’t be such a bad idea for today. Their one album, 2008’s The Age of the Understatement, is chock full of Alex Turner’s voice and clever lyrics set against a background of Miles Kane’s guitar work. The two wrote the songs together before then having Owen Pallett (of Final Fantasy and Arcade Fire fame) and the London Metropolitan Orchestra record string arrangements. If that’s not enough talent for you, James Ford played drums, produced, and mixed it.

It’s no real surprise that this album almost won the Mercury Prize for the year, and got stellar reviews from most critics. The album is pretty solid all the way through, though I will admit that things start to sound similar after a while, leaving some tracks lost while others shine through a tad more. My personal favorite is “I Don’t Like You Anymore,” but that’s just my taste. The song below is just as good, and was released as the second single after the title track. If you like the vibe, the rest of the album offers more of the same and will certainly not disappoint. Enjoy!

  1. LOVE The Last Shadow Puppets! I had no idea though that Owen Pallett did some of the strings. Awesome!
